Hipress ( Tenormin, Generic Atenolol )

Atenolol is used alone or in combination with other medications to treat high blood pressure. It also is used to prevent angina (chest pain) and treat heart attacks. Atenolol is in a class of medications called beta blockers. It works by slowing the heart rate and relaxing the blood vessels so the heart does not have to pump as hard.Atenolol comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It is usually taken once or twice a day. To help you remember to take atenolol, take it around the same time every day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take atenolol exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.Atenolol controls high blood pressure and angina but does not cure them. It may take 1-2 weeks before you feel the full benefit of atenolol. Continue to take atenolol even if you feel well. Do not stop taking atenolol without talking to your doctor.Atenolol is also used sometimes to prevent migraine headaches and to treat alcohol withdrawal, heart failure, and irregular heartbeat. Talk to your doctor about the possible risks of using this medication for your condition.

Amoxycillin ( Amoxil, Dispermox, Generic Amoxicillin )

Suspension contain the active ingredient amoxicillin (previously spelt amoxycillin in the UK). (NB. Amoxicillin is also available without a brand name, ie as the generic medicine.) Amoxicillin belongs to a group of antibiotics called penicillins. It is used to treat infections caused by bacteria. The injection is used to treat more serious infections, or in cases where the medicine can't be taken by mouth. Amoxicillin works by interfering with the ability of bacteria to form cell walls. The cell walls of bacteria are vital for their survival. They keep unwanted substances from entering their cells and stop the contents of their cells from leaking out. Amoxicillin impairs the bonds that hold the bacterial cell wall together. This allows holes to appear in the cell walls and kills the bacteria. Amoxicillin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that kills a wide variety of bacteria that cause a wide variety of commonly-occuring infections. Amoxicillin may be used to treat infections of the upper or lower airways, skin or soft tissue, or ears. It may also be used to treat urine infections, certain sexually-transmitted infections, dental infections, and infections affecting the blood or internal organs. To make sure the bacteria causing an infection are susceptible to amoxicillin your doctor may take a tissue sample, for example a swab from the throat or skin, or a urine or blood sample. What is it used for? Bacterial infections of the lungs (chest or lower respiratory tract), eg acute and chronic bronchitis, pneumonia. Bacterial infection of the nasal passages, sinuses or throat (upper respiratory tract infection), eg sinusitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis, tonsillitis. Bacterial infections of the middle ear (otitis media).Bacterial infections of the urinary tract or kidneys (pyelonephritis).Bacterial infections of skin or soft tissue, eg boils, abscesses, cellulitis, impetigo.Gynaecological bacterial infections, including those following childbirth or abortion.Gonorrhoea.Abdominal bacterial infections (peritonitis).Bacterial infections of the blood (septicaemia or blood poisoning).Bacterial infection of the heart valves and the lining surrounding the heart (bacterial endocarditis).Preventing infection of the heart (bacterial endocarditis) during medical or dental procedures in people with heart valve defects or artificial heart valves.Dental abscess (as addition to surgical management).Typhoid and paratyphoid fever.Lyme disease (unlicensed use).Eradicating Helicobacteria pylori bacteria in the gut that are associated with causing peptic ulcers (in combination with other medicines).

This medication is also used to treat certain stomach and throat (esophagus) problems caused by too much stomach acid (e.g., Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, erosive esophagitis) or a backward flow of stomach acid into the esophagus (acid reflux disease/GERD). Decreasing extra stomach acid can help relieve symptoms such as stomach pain, heartburn, difficulty swallowing, persistent cough, and trouble sleeping. It can also prevent serious acid damage to your digestive system (e.g., ulcers, cancer of the esophagus).Cimetidine belongs to a class of drugs commonly called H2 blockers. It works by reducing the amount of acid in your stomach. This medication is also available without a prescription. It is used to treat occasional heartburn caused by too much acid in the stomach (also called acid indigestion or sour stomach). It is also used to prevent heartburn and acid indigestion caused by certain foods and beverages. If you are taking this medication for self-treatment, it is important to read the manufacturer's package instructions carefully so you know when to consult your doctor or pharmacist. (See also Precautions.)How to use Cimetidine OralTake this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor. The dosage and length of treatment are based on your medical condition and response to therapy. Sitagliptin is used with a proper diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes (non-insulin-dependent diabetes). Controlling blood sugar helps to prevent heart disease, strokes, kidney disease, blindness, circulation problems, and sexual function problems. Sitagliptin may be used alone or with other diabetes medications taken by mouth (e.g., metformin, rosiglitazone, pioglitazone). This drug works by increasing levels of natural hormones called incretins. Incretins help to control blood sugar and increase insulin release, especially after a meal. They also decrease the amount of sugar your liver makes. How to use Januvia OralRead the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your pharmacist before you start using sitagliptin and each time you get a refill. It is also used to relieve the symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder, including mood swings, irritability, bloating, and breast tenderness. Sertraline is in a class of antidepressants called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). It works by increasing the amounts of serotonin, a natural substance in the brain that helps maintain mental balance.Sertraline comes as a tablet and a concentrate (liquid) to take by mouth. Continue to take sertraline even if you feel well. Do not stop taking sertraline without talking to your doctor.Sertraline is also used sometimes to treat headaches and sexual problems.

Zeffix ( Generic Imaivudine )

lamivudine, which is a type of medicine called a nucleoside analogue. Lamivudine is an antiviral medicine used to treat hepatitis B. (NB. Lamivudine is also used to treat HIV infection, but when used for this purpose, higher doses than those found in Zeffix are needed. See the Epivir factsheet for more information on this use of lamivudine.) Hepatitis B is a virus that infects the liver and leads to liver damage. Once the virus is inside the liver cells it multiplies. Part of this process involves the virus making copies of its genetic material (DNA). This is achieved by a compound essential to the virus, called viral DNA polymerase. Viral DNA polymerase is a compound known as an enzyme. Lamivudine works by blocking the action of this enzyme. This stops the virus from multiplying.Lamivudine lowers the amount of hepatitis B virus in the body. This leads to a reduction in liver damage and an improvement in liver function. What is it used for? Chronic hepatitis B

Estrin ( Cenestin, Enjuvia, Ogen, Premarin, Generic Conjugated Estrogen )

This medication is a female hormone and is usually given to women who no longer produce the amount of estrogen they produced before menopause. It is a very effective treatment for reducing a common menopause symptom (intense feelings of warmth and sweating known as hot flashes). If you need treatment only for vaginal menopause symptoms (e.g., vaginal dryness), products applied directly inside the vagina should be considered before medications that are taken by mouth, absorbed through the skin, or injected.Certain estrogen products may also be used to prevent bone loss (osteoporosis) in people at high risk who cannot take non-estrogen drugs. There are several other medications (e.g., raloxifene, bisphosphonates such as alendronate) that are safe and effective to prevent or treat bone loss. These medicines should be considered for use before estrogen treatment.Certain estrogen products may also be used to treat certain cancers in men and women (e.g., certain types of metastatic breast cancer, prostate cancer) and other conditions as determined by your doctor. How to use Conjugated Estrogens OralRead the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your pharmacist before you start using this medication and each time you get a refill. Gliben ( Diaonil, Diabeta, Glyburide, Glynase, Micronase, Generic Glibenclamide )

Glibenclamide, which is a type of medicine called a sulphonylurea. (NB. Glibenclamide tablets are also available without a brand name, ie as the generic medicine.) Glibenclamide is used to help control blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes. People with type 2 diabetes (non-insulin dependent diabetes) have a deficiency of a hormone called insulin. Insulin is produced by the pancreas and is the main hormone responsible for controlling sugar levels in the blood. It normally makes the cells of the body remove excess sugar from the blood. In type 2 diabetes insulin is produced inefficiently in response to surges of blood sugar, eg following a meal. The cells of the body also become resistant to the action of insulin that is produced, which means that blood sugar levels can become too high. Glibenclamide works mainly by stimulating the cells in the pancreas that produce insulin. These cells are called beta cells. Glibenclamide causes the beta cells to produce more insulin. This helps to decrease the amount of sugar in the blood of people with type 2 diabetes.Glibenclamide is a first line option for treating type 2 diabetes in people who are not overweight, or who cannot take metformin. It is used when diet and exercise have failed to control blood sugar levels. It can also be used in combination with other antidiabetic medicines to provide better control of blood sugar. The tablets should normally be taken with, or immediately after, breakfast or the first main meal. What is it used for? Type 2 (non-insulin dependent) diabetes, when diet has failed to fully control blood sugar.

Timolol ( Generic Betimol, Timoptic, Timoptic-Xe )

Timolol is used to treat glaucoma, a condition in which increased pressure in the eye can lead to gradual loss of vision. Timolol decreases the pressure in the eye.Timolol comes as eyedrops and eye gel. Timolol eyedrops usually are applied once or twice a day, at evenly spaced intervals, until pressure in your eyeball is controlled (about 4 weeks). Then you may be able to use it once a day. Timolol gel usually is applied once a day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Use timolol exactly as directed. Do not use more or less of it or use it more often than prescribed by your doctor.Timolol controls glaucoma but does not cure it. Continue to use timolol even if you feel well. Do not stop using timolol without talking to your doctor.

Synermox ( Augmentin, Generic Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid )

The combination of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid is used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria, including infections of the ears, lungs, sinus, skin, and urinary tract. Amoxicillin is in a class of medications called penicillin-like antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Clavulanic acid is in a class of medications called beta-lactamase inhibitors. It works by preventing bacteria from destroying amoxicillin. Antibiotics will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections.Amoxicillin and clavulanic acid also is used sometimes to treat certain sexually transmitted diseases (STD).
