Prednisone is used alone or with other medications to treat the symptoms of low corticosteroid levels (lack of certain substances that are usually produced by the body and are needed for normal body functioning). Prednisone is also used to treat other conditions in patients with normal corticosteroid levels. These conditions include certain types of arthritis; severe allergic reactions; multiple sclerosis (a disease in which the nerves do not function properly); lupus (a disease in which the body attacks many of its own organs); and certain conditions that affect the lungs, skin, eyes, kidneys blood, thyroid, stomach, and intestines. Prednisone is also sometimes used to treat the symptoms of certain types of cancer. Prednisone is in a class of medications called corticosteroids. It works to treat patients with low levels of corticosteroids by replacing steroids that are normally produced naturally by the body. It works to treat other conditions by reducing swelling and redness and by changing the way the immune system works.
This medication is used to treat dry eyes due to a certain type of eye condition (keratoconjunctivitis sicca). It works by increasing the amount of tears you make. How to use Cyclosporine OphtThis medication is applied to the affected eye(s) usually twice a day, about 12 hours apart; or as directed by your doctor. To apply eye drops, wash your hands first. To avoid contamination, be careful not to touch the tip of the vial or let it touch your eye. Before opening the vial, make sure the eye drops are well mixed by turning the vial upside down several times before use. Open the vial right before you are about to use it. The eye drops should have a milky, white appearance.Tilt your head back, look upward and pull down the lower eyelid to make a pouch. Place the tip of the vial directly over the eye and apply 1 drop. Look downward and gently close your eye for 1 to 2 minutes. Try not to blink and do not rub the eye.Discard the remaining contents of the opened vial immediately after use. Do not store the opened vial for later use.If you wear contact lenses, remove them before using this medication and do not replace them until 15 minutes following use of these eye drops. If you are also using other drops for dry eyes (e.g., artificial tears), wait 15 minutes between use of the different products.
Nicorette nasal spray contains nicotine. It is a type of medicine known as nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) and is used to help smokers give up the habit. Nicotine is the addictive substance present in tobacco. Smokers who try to give up often experience unpleasant withdrawal symptoms and cravings for cigarettes, because they are dependent on the nicotine in tobacco. Withdrawal symptoms can include irritability, headaches, restlessness, insomnia and difficulty concentrating. These, combined with cigarette cravings, are why it is difficult for some people to give up smoking. Nicotine replacement therapies work by giving you a small amount of nicotine, but without the dangerous effects of inhaling tobacco smoke. This helps relieve the withdrawal symptoms and cravings for a cigarette that you get when you stop smoking, and allows you to get on with breaking the psychological habit of smoking. If you are physically addicted to nicotine, using NRT has been shown to almost double your chances of successfully quitting smoking. Nicorette nasal spray may be particularly helpful to the most heavily dependent smokers, because the nicotine is rapidly absorbed through the blood vessels in the nose to relieve cravings quickly. The nasal spray should be used, following the instructions in the pack, to relieve cravings in the first eight weeks after stopping smoking. The amount you use will depend on how many cigarettes you used to smoke and what strength they were, however, you should not use more than one spray in each nostril twice an hour. After this time your psychological urge to smoke should be less. You should then be able to gradually reduce the amount you use the spray, so that you are using less and less nicotine. Ideally after two further weeks you should be using half of what you were initially using. After four weeks (three months after you stopped smoking) you should have stopped using the spray completely. (It is rare to become dependent on the nasal spray. If this happens it is much less dangerous than being dependent on cigarettes and is a much easier habit to break than smoking.)NRT comes in many forms. There are factsheets on all these linked at the end of this page. Nicotine patches can be used to help prevent cravings for cigarettes, while nasal sprays, inhalators, chewing gum, tablets that dissolve under the tongue, and lozenges, are all forms that can be used instead of smoking when you get a cigarette craving. As well as breaking the physical addiction, you also need to break the smoking habits you used to have. Try to avoid situations where you will be tempted to smoke, and remember to seek help and support whenever you feel like giving in to your cravings. What is it used for? Relief of withdrawal symptoms associated with giving up smoking.
This drug is used in combination with other medications to help control your HIV infection, thereby improving your quality of life. It also lowers your risk of getting HIV disease complications (e.g., new infections, cancer). Atazanavir belongs to a class of drugs known as protease inhibitor. Atazanavir is not a cure for HIV infection, and it does not prevent the spread of HIV to others through sexual contact or blood contamination (e.g., sharing used needles). How to use Atazanavir OralTake this medication by mouth, usually once daily with food, or as directed by your doctor. Do not crush or chew the medication. Swallow capsules whole. If you are taking atazanavir and efavirenz, you should also be taking ritonavir. If you are taking antacids or a buffered form of didanosine (e.g., chewable/dispersible buffered tablets), take atazanavir 2 hours before or 1 hour after these medicines. Also, other acid-lowering medications for indigestion, heartburn, or ulcers (e.g., prescription or over-the-counter medications such as famotidine, omeprazole) may prevent your HIV drugs from working. Ask your doctor or pharmacist how to use these medications safely.Do not take more or less of this drug than prescribed. Do not stop taking it unless directed to do so by your doctor. It is very important to continue taking this medication (and other anti-HIV medications) exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not skip any doses. This medicine comes with a patient information leaflet. Read it carefully. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this medicine.Atazanavir Oral is used to treat the following:HIVAtazanavir Oral may also be used to treat: Prevention of HIV Infection after Exposure This product is able to be sourced and supplied at excellent prices because of favourable cross border currency conversions. All products are authentic brand names and will include a product information insert in English.Medical Information:Flixotide Inhaler is used to treat asthma in people who need regular treatment. This medicine is a corticosteroid used to treat asthma. This medicine is also used to prevent asthma attacks. IT WILL NOT STOP an asthma attack once one has started. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor. Fluticasone propionate is used to control the signs and symptoms of asthma that are responsive to orally inhaled corticosteroids. It is also used as a nasal spray to relieve nasal congestion in the treatment of seasonal and perennial rhinitis (runny nose) where inflammation of the lining of the nose causes it to run. Fluticasone (floo-TIK-a-sone) belongs to the family of medicines known as corticosteroids (cortisone-like medicines). It is used to help prevent the symptoms of asthma. When used regularly every day, inhaled fluticasone decreases the number and severity of asthma attacks. However, it will not relieve an asthma attack that has already started.Inhaled fluticasone works by preventing certain cells in the lungs and breathing passages from releasing substances that cause asthma symptoms. This medicine may be used with other asthma medicines, such as bronchodilators (medicines that open up narrowed breathing passages) or other corticosteroids taken by mouth.Fluticasone is a steroid. It prevents the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation.Fluticasone inhalation is used to prevent asthma attacks. It will not treat an asthma attack that has already begun.Preventing or reducing the frequency and seriousness of bronchial asthma attacks. Flixotide Aerosol Inhaler does not help during an acute asthma attack.Flixotide Aerosol Inhaler is a corticosteroid. It works by reducing inflammatory reactions in the airways in response to allergens and irritants in the air. Indinavir is used for: Treating HIV along with other medicines. This medicine is not a cure for HIV. Indinavir is an antiviral medication in a group of HIV medicines called protease (PRO-tee-ayz) inhibitors. Indinavir prevents human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) cells from multiplying in your body.Indinavir is used to treat HIV, which causes acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Indinavir is not a cure for HIV or AIDS.Indinavir is used in the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. HIV causes the immune system to break down so that it can no longer fight off other infections. This leads to the fatal disease known as acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS).HIV thrives by taking over the immune system's vital CD4 cells (white blood cells) and using their inner workings to make additional copies of itself. Indinavir belongs to a class of HIV drugs called protease inhibitors, which work by interfering with an important step in the virus's reproductive cycle. Although Indinavir cannot eliminate HIV already present in the body, it can reduce the amount of virus available to infect other cells.Indinavir can be taken alone or in combination with other HIV drugs such as Retrovir. Because Indinavir and Retrovir attack the virus in different ways, the combination is likely to be more effective than either drug alone. Daktacort hydrocortisone cream contains two active ingredients, miconazole nitrate and hydrocortisone acetate.Miconazole nitrate is a type of antifungal medicine. It kills fungi, yeasts and some bacteria (Staphylococcus and Streptococcus species). Miconazole works by preventing fungi from producing a substance called ergosterol, which is a component of fungal cell membranes. The cell membranes of fungi are vital for their survival. They keep unwanted substances from entering the cells and stop the contents of the cells from leaking out. Without ergosterol as part of the cell membrane, the membrane is weakened and damaged, and essential constituents of the fungal cells can leak out. This kills the fungi. Hydrocortisone acetate is a type of medicine known as a corticosteroid (or steroid). Corticosteroids are hormones that are produced naturally by the adrenal glands, and have many important functions, including control of inflammatory responses. Hydrocortisone is used to decrease inflammation in the skin. When applied to the skin it is absorbed into the skin cells. Here it works by preventing the release of certain chemicals from the cells. These chemicals are important in the immune system, and are released as a result of irritation. They cause blood vessels to widen, resulting in the affected area of skin becoming red, swollen, itchy and painful. By decreasing the release of these chemicals in the skin, hydrocortisone reduces inflammation and relieves itch. This combination of medicines is used to treat athlete's foot, and another fungal infection of the skin called Candidal intertrigo. This is inflammation that occurs between folds of skin, eg between the buttocks or beneath the breasts, and is due to overgrowth of Candida species of fungi in these warm, moist areas. The hydrocortisone in this medicine reduces the inflammation associated with athlete's foot and candidal intertrigo, while the miconazole kills the fungi causing the infection. Once the inflammation has cleared up, treatment can be continued with a medicine containing just an antifungal, eg Daktarin cream or powder. What is it used for? Athlete's foot (tinea pedis) Inflammation between folds of skin, eg buttocks, due to infection with Candida fungi (Candidal intertrigo) Mometasone is used to relieve the itching and inflammation of numerous skin conditions.Mometasone comes as a topical cream, ointment, and lotion. It usually is applied externally once a day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Use mometasone exactly as directed. Do not use more or less of it or use it more often than prescribed by your doctor. To use mometasone cream or ointment, apply a thin film to the affected skin areas once daily. To apply the lotion, place a few drops on the affected areas once daily and massage lightly until it disappears. To be most effective and economical, hold the nozzle of the bottle very close to the affected areas and gently squeeze. Clemastine is used to relieve hay fever and allergy symptoms, including sneezing; runny nose; and red, itchy, tearing eyes in adults and children older than 6 years of age. Prescription strength clemastine is also used to relieve the itching and swelling of hives in adults and children older than 6 years of age. Clemastine should not be used in children younger than 6 years old, because it may cause serious or life-threatening side effects in young children. Clemastine should be used carefully in children who are 6-11 years old. Clemastine helps control symptoms of allergies and colds but does not treat the cause of these symptoms or speed recovery. Clemastine should not be used to cause sleepiness in children. Clemastine is in a class of medications called antihistamines. It works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms.
Mycophenolate is used for: Preventing organ rejection following kidney, liver, or heart transplants. This medicine is used in combination with other medicines. Mycophenolate (mye-koe-FEN-oh-late) belongs to a group of medicines known as immunosuppressive agents. It is used to lower the body's natural immunity in patients who receive organ transplants. Mycophenolate is indicated for the prophylaxis of organ rejection in patients receiving allogeneic renal, cardiac or hepatic transplants. Mycophenolate should be used concomitantly with cyclosporine and corticosteroids. Mesalamine is used to treat ulcerative colitis (a condition in which part or all of the lining of the colon [large intestine] is swollen or worn away). Mesalamine delayed-release tablets and controlled-release capsules may be used to treat ulcerative colitis that affects any part of the colon. Mesalamine suppositories and enemas should only be used to treat inflammation of the lower part of the colon. Mesalamine is in a class of medications called anti-inflammatory agents. It works by stopping the body from producing a certain substance that may cause pain or inflammation.Mesalamine comes as a delayed-release tablet and a controlled-release capsule to take by mouth and as a suppository and an enema to use in the rectum. The delayed-release tablet is usually taken three times a day, and the controlled-release capsule is usually taken four times a day. The suppository is usually used one to three times a day, and the enema is usually used once a day at bedtime. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take or use mesalamine exactly as directed. Do not take or use more or less of it or take or use it more often than prescribed by your doctor.Swallow the tablets whole; do not split, chew, or crush them. Be careful not to break the protective coating on the tablets. If you are unable to swallow the capsules, you may mix the contents of the capsules with water. Open a capsule and sprinkle all of the beads it contains in a small glass of water. Stir the beads into the water and drink the mixture right away. Do not store mixtures of beads and water for later use.The enema and suppositories are for rectal use only. You should begin to feel better during the first few days or weeks of your treatment with mesalamine. Continue to take or use mesalamine until you finish your prescription, even if you feel better at the beginning of your treatment. Do not stop taking or using mesalamine without talking to your doctor.Mesalamine suppositories and enemas may stain clothing, flooring, fabric and other surfaces. Take precautions to prevent staining when you use these medications.
